Granular Fertilizers

It is a well-known fact that applied fertilizers’ efficiencies are low due to leaching, volatilisation and fixation. This contributes to low fertilizer efficiency (as low as 40-60% for nitrogen, 40-50% for potassium, and 30% for phosphorous). The most limiting factor in plant nutrition a decade ago was perhaps phosphate or nitrogen. Today it is microbial activity in the soil. It is clear that plant nutritionists today must have a holistic approach towards plant nutrition and soil biology. Research has shown that soil micro-organisms will increase the efficiency of applied fertilizers.

Due to the big success of the Black™ range of products, Profert has decided to buy into the company Advanced Nutrients Australia to secure the supply of the product Launch™, which is used in the coating process. Launch™ is a product that is manufactured in the United States of America. It was originally designed and developed for bio-remediation of soils that are contaminated with pollutants (HAZMAT industry), it was later tested in the agriculture industry with great success. The Black ™ range of products is mainly UREA and DAP that is coated with Launch™. At the moment we are testing Black Urea in cattle feeds as it seems that it is possible to add higher quantities of Black Urea as a protein source in animal feed supplements.

Last year Profert Fertilizer has improved the mode of action of the coating technology. Additional additives are used to further increase the efficiency of UREA and DAP (Di Ammonium Phosphate). The mode of action is the new bio-organic coating that will further enhance the microbial activity in the soil. It was proven in trials that the sustained release of plant available nutrients has increased the efficiency of the fertilizers. The unique bio-organic coating also helps to limit the negative impacts like the SALT INDEX and ACIDIFYING process associated with normal chemical fertilizers.

BLACK coated products actively and directly affect the soil environment by:
· supplementing essential Soil Micro Organisms,
· inhibiting the acidifying process of fertilization,
· supplying your soil with the essential nutrients your plants and Soil Micro-organisms need.

How the Granular products are named: 

E.g: 4.3.4 (40)Zn+S(BU)
The 4.3.4 is the ratio of Nitrogen (N) : Phosphate (P) : Potassium (K).
The number in Brackets, 40 in this case, is the total % of active Nitrogen, Phosphorous and Potassium.
To calculate the % N you add the 4+3+4=11 then divide 4 by the 11 and multiply by 40, so the N% is 14.5%. The P % is 3 divided by 11 time 40 = 10.9% etc.
The Zn stands for the Trace elements that are added to our blends with specialised gypsum granules. At this stage we can add Zinc(Zn), Manganese(Mn), Boron(B) and Iron (Fe) in various ratios.
The BU stands for Black Urea, which is a specialised organic coating that can coated on the Urea or the DAP.
Example: for say a 10 ton Maize crop on soils that have been limed correctly would be:
Planting mixture = 4.3.4(40)Zn BU @ 250kg
Topdressing = 130kg Black Urea
